Y'all have to go to Kroger this week and stock up on meat! They have some great deals. There are lots of other deals this week, a 10/$10 sale but I'm not going over those because I have 4 weeks worth of coupons I haven't cut. I'm sure there are some free or close to free items this week.
But let's talk turkey. Not really turkey, but I couldn't think of any other meat sayings.
Chuck roast is $1.99 a pound. Excellent price. Did I ever tell y'all my two favorite ways to cook a roast? No? Both are either in the crock pot or dutch oven. One is just pouring a Shiner beer over it, or any other dark ale. The other is to sprinkle really any kind of Lipton dry soup on your roast (I like french onion) then pour a coke over that. Not diet. Both will give you a yummy roast.
Ground beef in 3 lb or 5 lb packages are $1.79 a pound. I'm sure this isn't the lean stuff. But my good friend and grill master Bobby Flay says that the best ground beef is the 80/20 anyway, so hopefully that will be on sale. Bobby isn't really my friend (except in my own mind) but I sure wish he was.
Beef cubed steak is $2.99 a pound. I haven't seen it cheaper than this in a while. Mmmmm, chicken fried steak.
Half pork loins are $1.99 a pound. Go buy this! If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times, get your butcher at the meat counter to slice it into chops for you. Same with those ground beef rolls, they'll slice them into 1 lb pieces for you. Then just throw them into individual freezer bags.
The pork loin is interesting. Let me tell you why. You can buy a half pork loin this week for $1.99/pound. If you look at the page in the ad with the other meats you'll see that a family pack of pre-sliced boneless pork loin chops are $2.99 / pound. Guess what. These chops are the exact same thing as your pork loin is, just pre-sliced. Why in the world would you buy the pre-sliced at $1.00/pound more? Especially when you can still have the butcher slice it for you? It's not like you have to go home and slice it. Even when I used to buy those family packs, I still had to go home, open the package and re-package it into smaller portions. So I'm not saving time by buying the pre-sliced. Plus you can tell the butcher how think you want your chops. I usually buy 2-3 loins when they are this price and get thin and thick chops.
So there, I've stated my case. If I hear of anyone that reads this buying $2.99 pork chops I'll beat you with a whole pork loin.
